New events

So, The New Year is almost upon us, and with it, a new event! Heavensturn, Apparently, this is an event that existed in 11 as well. It looks interesting. With a bunch of helmets for vanity. Again, they need to add some vanity slots. With how important gear is, there is little point in wearing something that doesn't contribute to something.

So, there are horse, dragon, and bunny helms. But, no chocobo helms like shown in the picture. Pity. it looks neat and that would have actually gotten me interested. The gather food might be something to look into though. Until then, back to work on my crafting.

leveling and crafting macros

So, I did a bit of research. It appears that Cleric Stance isn't build for Int Arcanists after all. Yeah, it switches your Int and Mind around. But it also lowers your healing in favor of raising your spell damage. If it wasn't for the fact that Summoner's can't use it, it would be perfect for a Mind Arcanist to use for a Summoner.

While I enjoy crafting, mass creating items takes a lot of time, and is boring. Having to go from one ability to the other. Unless of course, you want to quick synthesize. But then you have less of a chance of HQ items, and less xp.So, I started crafting macros. This way, I only have to press one or two buttons to create an items, and get over 200% xp from crafting.

Some people aren't used to making macros. Even less use them for crafting. So, here is an example of my own macros. Today, I've been mass producing Crow Fly lures. I had to divide it into two macros. Due to the limit of 15 lines per macro.

Step 1:

/ac "waste not" <me>
/wait 3
/ac "Careful synthesis" <me>
/wait 3
/ac "Careful synthesis" <me>
/wait 3
/ac "Careful synthesis" <me>
/wait 3
/ac "Careful synthesis" <me>

Step 2:

/ac "inner quiet" <me>
/wait 3
/ac "steady hand" <me>
/wait 3
/ac "standard touch" <me>
/wait 3
/ac "standard touch" <me>
/wait 3
/ac "standard touch" <me>
/wait 3
/ac "standard touch" <me>
/wait 3
/ac "Careful synthesis" <me>

Why wait 3 seconds? Because of how long it takes to cool down the abilities. I suppose if your computer is fast enough, you can lower the wait time. <me> causes the ability to target you. And is necessary. If you have any question about macros, post them in the comments.

Job unlocked: Summoner!

Finally! After getting better gear, I managed to defeat Ifrit-Egi. The trick is to stay away from him when blasting down the nails. DoT and blast.

So, for those who don't know, Jobs are an extension of a class. They change the skills around. They add new skills, while limiting how many you can get from other jobs. To activate a job, you simply equip its crystal.

As a Job levels with its base class, I won't be adding another to my class list. If I level as a summoner, I am basically leveling the Arcanist class. So it will remain as such.

My next stop? The Scholar job. It too is based on the Arcanist class. The only class with more then one job connected to it. Apparently, there is a cleric stance that switches my int with my mind. Thus turning my damage focused Arcanist into one prepared for healing.

Preparing For Summoner

So, the summoner quest is a bit more difficult then I had expected. So, I decided to work on my crafting some more. Again, the materials are getting where they aren't in the shops.

so, a bit of crafting ahead of me. Managed to find a wonderful site that lists the best gear for your class at that level and the next several. You can even set it so that it only lists the gear you can craft.  Through it, I found several pieces of crafting gear I had been missing from my crafting set.

Level 30, jobs, and chocobos!

Finally! I've reached level 30 on my Arcanist. This is a big step, as it opens up the possibility of Jobs. Namely, Summoner!

But there is more now too. I am now able to make my chocobo a combat ally. I decided that, despite what most have suggested online, to make my chocobo a healer. This has so far seemed a bit of help. As my thaumetergist is taking some damage.

So, when you have your chocobo out as a companion, you gain less xp. Which is interesting, because if you are playing a pet based class, your pet doesn't take away from your xp. And they are much more useful so far.

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas to all!

Honestly, the holiday event hasn't interested me a bit. Everything is vanity. And without slots for the vanity gear, that is taking up important space that could be used for gear. *shrug*

Getting to the point in crafting where venders no longer have what I need. Now's where all the gathering skills come into play. Looks like I'm going to be doing a lot more farming to get what I need. Need to continue working on leveling.

Still, the stuff is getting interesting. Just made some new gathering rings. Then there are wristbands for crafting. a lot of neat stuff.

Quite a few of my friends are surprised by my continued plan to level all the classes. They'd rather I work on getting prepared for the endgame. But Im having fun.  and that is what is really important.

Leves and leveling

I love the Leves system. When compared to daily quests, it is just so much better. You don't have to make time every day to do them. You simply let them stack up until you have the time to do them. They give so much xp, making leveling a crafting class just that much easier. And the gil they give makes up for the cost of materials used to make stuff.

Speaking of crafting, finally got a crafting class to 20. Unlocked the abilitiy to add materia to gear. This appears to simply be the socketing from Warcraft. Except you can take a materia out. And... there appears to be something extra in there also. Going to take a bit to find out.

Finally! Got my main combat class up to 25! Halfway to the cap! took a lot of work. And its only uphill from here. My fellow guild mates are suggesting that I rush her, get her to 50 for the end game. Not sure I should do that. I'm enjoying everything. And this is my first character here.

Seals and levels

So, some of you may have noticed that my levels are all over the place. That's because, with my work, I don't have too much time to play. So, I've been doing supply and provision runs from my Grand Company. Saving my Leves up. And earning seals.

Most people suggest doing FATEs. I am rather amazed how quickly I gain them from doing supply and provision runs.A bit of advice: Work to craft/gather HQ items. You get bonus xp and seals for turning in HQ items for the quests.

So, what is my strategy for HQ items? Well, HQ components are a start. But, you probably don't want to spend all that time farming. Just gather the main stuff. Copper and iron ore to make Bronze Ingots, for example.

Then, there is the proper rotation of crafting skills. First, raise the completion, until one more attempt would complete it. Then, use Steady Hand to raise your chance of success. Use a quality raising ability until you are down to 10 durability, then restore durability with Master's Mend. If you are out of CP, then complete the item.

When gathering, use Leaf Turn and Unearth to raise the chance of gathering HQ items.

If you use all HQ components, then the quality bar will already be half filled. That's the easy part. The more you've filled the bar, the more you gain when you raise the quality.  Even if it isn't HQ, you still gain much more xp for completing.

I've noticed that, while I've been getting quite a few page views, I haven't recieved any comments. So, I thought I'd ask a question. Feel free to answer in the comments. What is your favorite way to level your other classes?

Duty Roulette

So, after completing my supplies and provisions for the day, I tried out the duty rotations, as I said I would. It didn't take long for my Arcanist to end up in a group running Copperbell Mines. The group was fun. The run was quick. We had enough dps not worry about taking out the adds on the final boss. I even got a few drops off of greed that I might be able to use for later classes.

But, the big thing is the bonus xp. I recieved 26k xp for using the duty roulette. I've heard from my higher level guild mates in Mutiny that you can get upwards of 100k if you are higher level. So, this could be a good way to get xp and level any combat alts i get.

Finally got around to turning in some of the seals I've been collecting. While I hustled to get the ones I needed for the chocobo, I didn't really feel the need to spend any more right away. Especially with how ugly the armor looks. But, I looked at the stats, and relented...

I look like a damned firefighter...

Patch 2.1

Had a busy day at work the day before, and an early day today. so I wasn't able to explore much of the new patch until this evening. One of the changes that lept out at me was the change to the menu system. Seeing most of the buttons missing, my first reaction was to reset the UI and the graphics. After that, I began experimenting with the buttons. To my relief, everything was still there!

I do like how teleport now displays the area the location is. Less teleporting to where you don't want to be.The buttons now have the short cut key easily displayed, which would have been helpful a few days ago when I was wondering if there was an quick button press for the armory chest. I wish I could comment on housing, but that will have to wait until my guild has earned the gil for one. we are a few mil short, if anybody wishes to send me some! I promise they will all go to the guild ^~^

Anyways, headed out of the inn and started up on the level 15 botany quest. Took me a bit to find where I was going, which lead to another discovery. The map has been changed. Subsection names are larger then before. Which is awesome. Makes it look more and more like an actual map.

Upon completion of the quest, I open my armory chest to equip my new scythe, and came to another change. The character screen now displayed the average item level of my gear, which was useless at this point. But what was more interesting, was instead of an x showing what gear I could not equip, the boxes were shaded and darker. Further inspection of the armory screen revealed a little icon in the lower right corner of some of my gear. Looks like a note. This marks equipment that is part of a gear set. Letting you know which ones you have in a class, so you don't accidently sell a piece.

Taking a look at the patch notes, I had to squee. What can I say? When it comes to cool useless collectables, like different mounts and minions, I'm a whore.

Those look so awesome! I will be keeping up to date on where they drop and what i have to do to get them. I'm expecting at least one to be tacked onto the rep grind.

I was hoping to give the duty rotation a try. But after doing my supply and provision runs, i didn't have time. Perhaps tomorrow!

The Beginning: The creation of an arcanist. Level 1 thru 15

After discussing it with Michael, I decided that I knew what I was going to be. My favorite class in all the Final Fantasy games. The Summoner! A class based around combat pets and DoTs. Thats when I realized. They are basically the Final Fantasy version of the Warcraft Warlock! And that being my main on Warcraft, it was practically built for me!

So, on the 6th, while we were playing D&D, I had my laptop installing and updating the game. When we were done, I loaded it up, and began the character creation. I had to laugh as I cut down her height and enlarged her breasts. Watching her shock as I flipped from the starter clothes to nude and back. I played with her emotes and smiled. Knowing the main requisite class for the Summoner, I choose her class as Arcanist. Gave her the god of Destruction as her deity, and finished the process. Demana Demonica was reborn!

As a catgirl.... Yeah, she wasn't too enthused about that. Ah well. I logged onto Behemoth server while she grumbled about a craving for fish, and began my adventure.

The cutscenes were interesting. I knew from the start the black masked man would be trouble. Little did I know how early I would have to deal with him. But, my airship soon landed and I disembarked into Limsa Lominsa.

I was immediately accosted by the npcs forcing me to listen to them jabber on about the troubles of the country. Like I cared. I waited it out, registered at the adventurer's guild, and was immediatly yelled at by the law! I swear, its like people have a thing against catgirls! First I almost get executed in Skyrim, simply for crossing the border illegally. And now I'm being accused of kidnapping! I mean, if it was stealing I could understand. I do tend to have sticky fingers. But kidnapping?

Anyways, after that little debacle was over, I began my explorations. I was surprised at how many quests I was able to do, simply by running around the town talking to people. I was level three before I even stepped out of the town. And that was when I was introduced to the FATE system.

I was a bit surprised to find the town guard running out after me. I thought we had cleared everything up? Boy was I surprised to find they weren't after me... but apparently a bunch of rabid sheep. I blinked, then remembered that someone or other had a thing against sheep too, and dashed in after them.

The battle brought back memories. Here I was, with my shadow bolt Ruin, and my agony Bio. And then, I hit level 4... and got my imp Carbuncle! The circle was now complete. I truly felt like a warlock again!

Anyways, I sound found myself a free company. And made some new friends. We chatted. They gave me some information about how things are done in game. And I shared my unique sense of humor with them.

It wasn't long before I ran into the black masked man again. In some cave. I forget its name. Anyways, he had apparently caused some trouble with big dumb looking guys I had seen stumbling around, and it was attacking me. The battle was joined by another arcanist, and we blew it away. She rambled on about disturbances in the aether, but I was too distract by a shiny on the ground to care.  Picking it up, I was assaulted with a vision. Of a massive monolith of crystal! As big as the town I had just come from!

I think there was some voice telling me something, but I was too busy trying to come up with an estimated value for the massive crystal I saw before me. And then I came out of the vision, to find the other catgirl standing over me. No massive crystal in sight. Le sigh. Looks like I'd have to continue to earn gil the hard way. By slaying random beasties that had the misfortune of crossing my path.

Soon, I was level 15, and my guild master had something for me. A new summoning spell!  I eagerly cast it, waiting to see what monstrosity I would call forth... and got a pikachu. I was a bit dissappointed. I already had a blue one. What was a little color change going to do?

Soon we set out to explore a merchant vessel, and were attacked by its captain! Apparently, they had a bunch of illegal goods. I sent my pikachu after them... and was amazed by its tanking abilities! It kept the pirates off me, as I blasted them and healed my allies. The combat was feirce, and I think my fellow arcanist lost her tome. But all that was forgotten as a familiar threat was on the horizon.

It was the man in the black mask! Appears he was behind the kidnapping! Him and a bunch of fish worshipping pirates! I knew by now how to deal with pirates. But then blacky decided to suprise me and send out his own summon to fight me. A gargoyle! That's right! A freaking gargoyle! And here I was with my yellow rodent... Didn't seem fair, really.

The battle didn't take long. For all its fierce appearence, the gargoyle was a push over. And so was mister mask. I gave a sigh of relief as i blew him away. Surely the threat was over? He was gone. Some black crystal he had was destroyed. And I could return to the important things. Like making money!

I returned to a hero's welcome, and a banquet in my honor. One that had a dress code that only required me to wear some fancy shoes. I could have probably gone in my skivies, as long as I wore those shoes. But I decided against it, heading there in my regular clothes with my new shoes. She discussed what was going on, I had another vision. And soon, I was off again. But this time, with an airship at my disposal, and 18 more classes waiting.

The prologue

I've always been into video games. Started on the Atari. Then the Nintendo and Super Nintendo. For a while, my parents got rid of all my video games. Felt that they were a bad influence. After I hit 18, we got back in on the Nintendo 64. I then started buying my own consoles and became a full fledged gamer.

My first MMO was Everquest. A friend got me into it. And while I enjoyed playing it, I eventually had to quit. I then got into MUDs. I started a blog at that time, mapping out some of the areas I explored and posting them for my fellow players.

In 2005, one of my coworkers suggested we play an MMO together. World of Warcraft. I was reluctant, thinking it was mainly strategy like the previous Warcraft games. I was pleasently surprised. I soon joined a guild called Unseen University, and began my addiction. I leveled several characters to the cap several times. Demana the Human Warlock. Blckmage the Gnome Mage. Tsunade the Night Elf Rogue.

Each time an expansion came out, I got it on the first day and began my exploration. And lots of fun was had. I found my most favorite experiences were the discussions we had as a guild. We quested together. I was the first among our guild to get a Netherdrake. The first to get the motorbike.

But, all good times come to an end. After graduating from college, I had trouble finding work. Most of this was becaue I had to stay home and help my dad take care of my dieing grandma. And thus, I was unable to support my Warcraft account anymore. And had to stop.

Five years have passed since then. I've played several free mmos, but none of them have really gotten my attention. And then I started reading about Final Fantasy XIV. And found out one of my friends from Warcraft was playing. Chatting with him, I decided to play again. So, on December 6th, I went out and bought my copy. And thus the journey began.

The Purpose of the Blog

One of the most amazing things about Final Fantasy XIV, is the ability to play multiple classes as one character. In every other MMO, you are stuck with whatever class you choose. You have to roll up a new character if you want to play as another class. Here, anyone can switch jobs whenever they like.

This gave me a mission! To have one character reach the cap, in all 19 classes! Oh, others have done this before me, I am sure. But they are not me.

So, here is a chronical of my time on Final Fantasy XIV. Of my epic quest to hit level 50 on all classes.

Now, I'm not starting at the beginning. No. At this time, December 15th 2013 I have already been playing for a little over a week. And here are the classes I have taken, and their levels:
